D O G S

Dogs. Jolie has this fear of dogs. I am not sure where she gets it from, but it cracks me up. She gets this look of terror on her face (even if it's a poodle), and then her face crumples. She runs, usually clings to my leg, and screams "UP... mamma UP!" As if this dog, no matter the size or kind is going to eat her up! Yes... she hates dogs. A good thing for me, as I'm allergic to them... but she needs to get over this fear, but how I ask you... how, when she won't even give them a chance?

The other day while on our beach walk, many people were out and about with their dogs, letting them stroll and run free on the beach. We were having a fine and dandy time collecting shells and climbing the rocks, that is until one dog started running happily toward us! He was so cute watching, leaping and bounding at us across the sand, tail wagging so happy to see new friends... I smiled, then laughed and had to capture the priceless look of terror on my poor daughter's face. Enough said?

Well, to get your daughter over the phobia may take a little allergic sacrifice on your part (Zyrtec is over the counter now and so is Claritin, so you're in good hands there).

The next part would be to find a group of puppies to expose her to: small, innocent, cute, and inviting. Puppy classes are probably abound all of the place, but a friendly breeder might be another good choice to start.

Another option would be a friend who has a dog that would be willing to spend the time explaining and pateintly fostering an end to the fear.

I'll be honest, though, our children pick up on our phobias (just like the are delved a unhealthy helping of our allergies), so you own hesitance towards dogs due to your allergies may just be manifesting itself as a fear in your daughter's behavior.

Like parent like child...

Oh, BTW, what a wonderful Poloroid framing sequence... I really should learn Picassa.

I'll trade you, you teach me Picassa and I'll teach you Capture NX....
